A video recently shared by ABC7 News Bay Area captured an Amazon drone dropping a package directly into a customer's swimming pool in Texas. This is not an isolated event; a similar occurrence was documented last July in Arizona, where a package, dislodged by the drone's downdraft, ended up in a pool. The customer in that instance noted that Amazon had pre-selected the delivery spot. Another incident from May showed a package bouncing off the ground near a pond and rolling into the water.
Beyond errant water landings, Amazon's drones have encountered other operational difficulties. Last year, the company temporarily suspended drone deliveries in the West Valley Phoenix Metro Area following two separate crashes involving its MK30 drones colliding with a crane. Further reports indicate drones severing internet cables and impacting apartment structures. Amazon maintains that its drones are equipped to verify the absence of people, pets, or vehicles before delivery, but these incidents suggest a potential oversight in detecting water hazards or other environmental obstacles. Amazon has yet to comment on these specific concerns.
