The Cali Foothills Integrated Corridor represents a significant urban intervention, transforming the periphery of Cali, Colombia, where the urban landscape meets the mountainous terrain. This ambitious project, spanning 57,000 square meters, was conceived to establish a verdant urban forest and restore the vital ecological connections between the city's built environment, the revered Cristo Rey Ecopark, and the majestic Farallones de Cali National Natural Park.

Cali's Green Transformation: An Integrated Corridor Project

In 2024, the city of Cali, Colombia, witnessed the completion of a landmark project by Edward Conde Serna Arquitectos: the Cali Foothills Integral Corridor. This 57,000 square meter park, spearheaded by lead architect Edward Conde Serna and curated by Valentina Díaz, is strategically located at the convergence of urban expansion and natural mountainous ecosystems. The project's core objective is to redefine this critical transition zone by transforming it into a dynamic landscape infrastructure. It endeavors to cultivate a nascent urban forest, fostering biodiversity and green spaces within the city's reach. More importantly, it aims to re-establish and strengthen the ecological continuity that was previously fragmented between the urban sprawl of Cali, the revered Cristo Rey Ecopark, and the ecologically significant Farallones de Cali National Natural Park. The design and implementation involved a dedicated team including Jorge Alexis Viveros (Lead Team), Jorge Salazar Marcillo, Karol Vega, Diana Quiros, and many others in the design and technical teams. Carlos Valencia Maya's photographic work beautifully captures the essence of this transformative project.

This innovative project serves as a compelling example of how urban planning and architectural design can be harmoniously integrated with ecological conservation. It highlights a forward-thinking approach to urban development, prioritizing green infrastructure and the restoration of natural habitats. The creation of such a corridor not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the city but also contributes significantly to its environmental resilience and the well-being of its inhabitants by providing essential ecological services and recreational opportunities.
