Located in East Austin's historic Cesar Chavez neighborhood, this project, completed in 2023 by A Parallel Architecture, is a shining example of how thoughtful architectural refurbishment can breathe new life into disused structures. ECC Creative: A Vision Realized in Austin's Heart

In the vibrant Cesar Chavez neighborhood of East Austin, Texas, a significant architectural endeavor culminated in 2023 with the unveiling of ECC Creative. This project saw A Parallel Architecture, led by principal architects Eric Barth and Ryan Burke, masterfully convert a neglected 3700 square foot auto parts warehouse into a modern commercial space. The design team, including Aaron Manns, meticulously planned the refurbishment to ensure that the building’s industrial heritage was respected, while integrating contemporary design elements that promote functionality, aesthetic appeal, and environmental consciousness. Photographer Chase Daniel captured the essence of this revitalization, showcasing its renewed exterior and thoughtfully designed interiors. The Tidsmaskinen After-School Center, known as 'The Time Machine,' showcases an architectural approach that seamlessly merges historical and contemporary designs. This project by BBP Arkitekter is composed of three interconnected buildings: a venerable villa, a modern tower, and a vibrant greenhouse. Together, these structures create a cohesive and inspiring environment for children, despite their diverse origins and styles.

The central element of this complex is the villa, originally constructed in 1918 as the schoolmaster's residence. Its historical presence is thoughtfully complemented by a newly erected tower. This addition draws inspiration from the site's existing architectural character while introducing an innovative structural form to the area, creating a dialogue between past and present. The surrounding landscape further enhances this unique setting; the garden, designed to reflect the original headmaster's layout, now features playful hills that transform the flat terrain of Amager into an adventurous playground for children.
