After extensive speculation, Meta officially launched its cutting-edge smart glasses, the Meta Ray-Ban Display. These glasses feature a high-resolution, full-color screen integrated into the right lens, providing users with a novel way to interact with digital content. Wearers can view messages, participate in video calls, read live captions, receive navigation directions, and even preview photos captured with the built-in 12-megapixel camera. The device is controlled by a wristband, allowing for intuitive navigation through gestures for scrolling, clicking, and future text input. With a battery life of up to six hours under mixed usage, extendable to 30 hours with its portable charging case, these glasses are priced starting at $799 and became available in the US on September 30th.
Enhanced Endurance: The Next Generation of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses
Meta introduced an updated version of its popular Ray-Ban smart glasses, boasting a significantly improved eight-hour battery life, almost double that of its predecessor. The second-generation model retains a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and now supports 3K video recording at up to 60 frames per second. The charging case has also been upgraded, providing an additional 48 hours of power. A new "conversation focus" function, integrated into both the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, is designed to enhance speech clarity in noisy environments. Starting at $379, these glasses are available in classic Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner designs.
Performance-Driven AI Glasses for Athletes
In collaboration with Oakley, Meta debuted the Oakley Meta Vanguard, a new line of smart glasses tailored for high-intensity sports enthusiasts. These glasses feature a wraparound design, IP67 water and dust resistance, and seamless integration with popular fitness applications like Garmin and Strava. This connectivity allows users to query Meta AI for real-time fitness data and statistics. Equipped with a 12MP, 122-degree camera on the nose bridge, the Vanguard can record videos in up to 3K resolution and introduces new capture modes such as slow-motion, time-lapse, and hyperlapse, which will also be extended to other Meta AI glasses. Other notable features include enhanced speakers and a battery life of up to nine hours. The Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses are available for $499, with preorders open for their October 21st launch.
Transforming Physical Environments into Virtual Realities with Quest Headsets
Meta's innovative Hyperscape feature now allows users of Quest 3 or Quest 3S headsets to scan their physical surroundings and convert them into immersive digital spaces. Initially demonstrated at last year's Meta Connect, this feature is now accessible in a beta version through the Hyperscape Capture application, offering a glimpse into the future of mixed reality experiences.
