NASA Ames: A Legacy of Innovation in Aerospace and Space Exploration







Since its inception in 1939, nestled among Silicon Valley's tech giants, the NASA Ames Research Center has been a crucible of innovation. Originally established as a West Coast outpost for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) to bridge America's gap in aviation research with Germany, Ames rapidly evolved from a humble structure on Moffett Field into an expansive complex. In more recent decades, Ames has pioneered developments in next-generation space suits, such as the distinctive AX-5 model, and made early strides in virtual reality technology. Its Human-Machine Interaction Group, in the 1980s, foresaw the potential of VR, constrained only by the computing power of the era.
