OnePlus Discontinues Operations in US and European Markets
OnePlus has officially confirmed its departure from the US and European markets, a move anticipated by many industry observers. The company will no longer introduce new products in these areas. Oppo, the parent company, has committed to upholding all existing support and warranty obligations for current OnePlus devices, which will undergo a transition to Oppo's ColorOS for subsequent software updates.
James Paterson, Oppo's senior PR manager in Europe, stated that ongoing software updates and after-sales service will be assured in both the US and Europe. However, specific details regarding the fulfillment of warranty and support agreements in the US, where Oppo will no longer have a physical presence, remain unconfirmed. In Europe, Oppo will continue its own sales of phones and other electronics. Current OnePlus device owners will see their phones switch from OxygenOS to ColorOS in the coming months. While users will have the option to revert to OxygenOS, doing so will mean foregoing future updates. This change highlights the integration of OnePlus's software with Oppo's ecosystem, with ColorOS being a strong contender among Android skins.
Regarding OnePlus's future, Elvis Zhou, Oppo Europe CEO, refrained from disclosing specific markets where the brand will continue to operate. Reports suggest that OnePlus may withdraw from India and other markets, focusing solely on China in the coming year. This aligns with a statement from Oppo's PR representative, Nicole Okpokiri, confirming an unchanged product roadmap for OnePlus in China but offering little reassurance for other regions. Additionally, Oppo's sub-brand, Realme, is also undergoing restructuring, shifting its focus to overseas markets and discontinuing new product launches in China. The impact on employment due to OnePlus's contraction was addressed by Zhou, who noted that all processes adhered to legal standards, with some employees being offered positions within Oppo, though exact figures were not disclosed. OnePlus is still preparing for the launch of its next flagship, the OnePlus 16, with its international availability now uncertain. Meanwhile, Oppo is set to release its Find X10 series and is reportedly developing a wide foldable phone, mirroring trends seen from competitors like Samsung and Apple.
