Nestled within Leganés's industrial expanse, the Leganés Auto Center project by OOIIO Architecture exemplifies a profound architectural metamorphosis. Instead of resorting to demolition, the design firm embraced adaptive reuse, converting a dilapidated factory into a contemporary automotive complex. This involved a strategic enhancement of the existing infrastructure, complemented by the introduction of a striking facade composed of vertical metal slats. This permeable skin not only imbues the building with a distinct identity but also significantly boosts its solar control capabilities, natural ventilation, and overall environmental efficiency. The facility is meticulously planned to support diverse automotive functions, including an expansive showroom, administrative offices, dedicated workshops for mechanical and bodywork repairs, and vast storage areas for a large fleet of vehicles. Innovative Strategies: Sustainability and Structural Enhancement
OOIIO Architecture's decision to preserve and repurpose the existing factory structure was central to its sustainable ethos, dramatically minimizing construction waste and extending the building's functional life. The former kitchen factory has been ingeniously reconfigured: the ground floor now houses the bustling showroom and workshops, the first floor is dedicated to office spaces, and the upper levels are allocated for extensive vehicle storage. To support these new functions, the original structural framework underwent significant reinforcement. Furthermore, the old roof was replaced with an additional storage floor, topped with photovoltaic pergolas.
