Volkswagen and n+ Unveil Smart eBike with Integrated Automotive Technology

Volkswagen, in partnership with n+, has launched its innovative Smart eBike series, diverging from its traditional four-wheeled vehicle designs. This new range includes both a Sport model and a Crossover model, both characterized by their sleek, minimalist aesthetic. The batteries are neatly housed within the frame's oversized down tube, with most cables discreetly integrated, giving the bikes a clean and streamlined appearance.
Both models prioritize rider safety and convenience through advanced integrated technology. The central feature is the 'Smart View' system, which incorporates a digital rear-view camera and radar unit into the rear mudguard. This pioneering system displays live traffic footage on a 3.5-inch handlebar screen and alerts riders to blind-spot hazards. Additionally, an illuminated strip along the top tube functions as a daytime running light, signaling braking with red and turns with amber, further enhancing visibility. The optional Smart Helmet also mirrors these signals, offering an extended layer of safety, although its behavioral lighting may not be approved for street use in some European countries.
Underneath their advanced exteriors, both the Sport and Crossover eBikes are equipped with a 250 W Yamaha PW-X3 mid-drive motor, delivering 85 Nm of torque and providing pedal assistance up to 25 km/h. Yamaha's automatic support mode dynamically adjusts power output based on terrain, simplifying the riding experience. A removable 490 Wh battery provides a range of up to 162 km, with an option for an 814 Wh rear-mounted battery for longer journeys. Additional features include an optional security pack with an 85 dB alarm and Apple Find My integration, making these eBikes not only smart but secure.
The Volkswagen Smart eBike represents a harmonious blend of automotive engineering and cycling innovation. By integrating intelligent safety features and robust performance, these eBikes aim to enhance the urban commuting and recreational riding experience, promoting a safer and more connected journey for all riders.
