Situated at 1697-38 Seocho-dong, the YP Building occupies a unique position. It functions as a transitional element, bridging an established residential quarter to its east with a 4-meter-wide street on its western flank. This street is slated for future expansion, an integral component of a broader district development plan tied to the nearby residential reconstruction. The building's location, at the crossroads of traditional low-rise commercial structures and the emerging scale of modern residential developments, necessitated an architectural solution that could seamlessly adjust to its surrounding environment.
Overcoming Site Constraints: A Creative Approach to Urban Challenges
The site presented several challenges, including its irregular "L" shape and the contrasting urban scales it abutted. To navigate these complexities, the design focused on two key strategies.
