Aston Martin and Brough Superior Launch the AMB 002 Roadster for Public Roads

Aston Martin and Brough Superior have officially revealed the AMB 002 Roadster, their initial motorcycle collaboration approved for general road use. This model marks a significant evolution from the track-exclusive AMB 001 introduced in 2019, and the subsequent AMB 001 Pro from 2022. Rather than being a mere adaptation, the AMB 002 is a completely reimagined machine, with production strictly limited to 300 individually crafted units. Deliveries are anticipated to commence in the third quarter of 2027, promising an exclusive riding experience for its fortunate owners.

The AMB 002 Roadster presents a harmonious fusion of sleek design and cutting-edge engineering. Its aesthetic, shaped by the Aston Martin Design Studio, features a compact profile and meticulously sculpted carbon fiber body panels. A flowing carbon fiber fuel tank gracefully rises towards the rider, while crescent-shaped openings integrated into the side fairings efficiently channel cooling air to the engine. Design cues from Aston Martin's automotive lineage are subtly woven throughout, such as the distinctive side strake that seamlessly wraps around the headlamp. The twin oval exhausts pay homage to models like the Vanquish, DB12 S, and DBX S, while the blade-like rear lights evoke the aggressive styling of the Vulcan, Valkyrie, and Valhalla. Luxurious details, including keyless operation, a backlit ignition button, and premium leather saddle pads, further bridge the gap between high-performance motorcycles and sophisticated road cars.

At the heart of the AMB 002 lies an innovative 1,083cc four-stroke, water-cooled V-twin engine, meticulously developed to deliver 130 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. This powerplant is specifically tuned for enhanced low- and mid-range response, ideal for road conditions. Each engine is precision-machined and assembled in-house at Brough Superior’s Toulouse facility in France, featuring CNC-machined billet engine cases designed to minimize weight. This potent engine is cradled within a lightweight titanium backbone frame, milled from a solid billet and weighing a mere five kilograms, contributing to the bike's exceptional 50:50 weight distribution. The motorcycle's overall mass is further optimized by the extensive use of carbon fiber for its body panels and fuel tank, keeping its total weight to a lean 190 kilograms. The front suspension employs Brough Superior’s double-wishbone Fior fork system, separating steering and braking forces to maintain the bike's geometry during braking and significantly reduce dive, especially when cornering under deceleration.

This latest iteration signifies a pivotal evolution in the collaboration between Aston Martin and Brough Superior. Initially focused on creating highly collectible track-only motorcycles like the AMB 001 and the more performance-oriented AMB 001 Pro, the partnership now extends its ambition to the public road. The AMB 002 Roadster embodies the brands' shared commitment to exceptional craftsmanship, marrying lightweight materials, intricate mechanical detailing, and exclusive production in a machine designed for everyday usability beyond the confines of the race circuit. Each AMB 002 will be meticulously hand-assembled by Brough Superior in Toulouse, featuring a blend of carbon fiber, titanium, machined components, and exquisite hand-finished leather accents. While pricing details have yet to be disclosed, orders are currently being accepted, ensuring that this limited-edition roadster will soon grace the world's streets, offering a unique blend of automotive luxury and two-wheeled exhilaration.

Beyond their charming appearance, these kitchen gadgets are crafted with a keen focus on practical application. The Banana Beach by Artori Design, a laser-cut metal hanger depicting a tranquil poolside scene, not only adds a tropical touch but also extends fruit freshness by enhancing air circulation and preventing bruising. The Wine Hat Stopper Collection offers stylish preservation for unfinished bottles, featuring various headwear silhouettes made from food-grade silicone that create an airtight seal. For egg enthusiasts, the Multipurpose Egg Holders (Egguins & Eggbears) facilitate boiling, serving, and storing up to six eggs without cracking, thanks to their heat-resistant design and cool-touch handle. The AWA Carbonator brings Scandinavian minimalist design to home sparkling water production, featuring a sleek, cord-free matte black body with chrome accents, operating with a simple press-button mechanism. Even mundane tasks like grating cheese are transformed with the Sword-Shaped Cheese Grater, which combines a durable stainless-steel surface with an ergonomic hilt-inspired grip, turning food preparation into an interactive experience. Finally, the ‘fall in wine’ Wine Holder creates an optical illusion, securely suspending a wine bottle as if a liquid spill has been frozen in motion, adding an artistic touch to wine presentation.

Capturing the Ephemeral: Two Centuries of Sky Gazing in Art

A fascinating exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, titled 'Chasing Clouds,' delves into the historical journey of how individuals have observed and artistically rendered the sky, showcasing a transformative shift in perception. This journey begins with the early use of tools like the Claude mirror, which offered a miniaturized, tinted reflection of landscapes, providing a novel way to frame reality long before photographic technology existed. This exhibition highlights how early artists and even tourists used these mirrors not merely to replicate nature but to interpret it, demonstrating an innate human desire to capture and re-imagine the world around them.

The exhibition continues by illustrating how artists, such as John Constable, pioneered a systematic study of the sky, meticulously documenting cloud formations and atmospheric conditions. His dedication transformed the simple act of looking skyward into a serious artistic and scientific endeavor, coinciding with meteorologist Luke Howard's groundbreaking classification of clouds in the early 19th century. As photography emerged, it presented new challenges and opportunities. Early photographic techniques struggled to accurately capture the luminosity of the sky, leading to innovative methods where photographers like Gustave Le Gray composited skies from separate negatives, essentially constructing the perfect cloudscape. This artistic manipulation blurred the lines between objective truth and subjective interpretation, raising questions about the inherent veracity of images.

As photographic technology advanced, artists like Alfred Stieglitz moved beyond mere representation, using clouds as a vehicle for emotional and abstract expression. By intentionally removing contextual elements like the horizon, Stieglitz's 'Equivalents' series transformed clouds into powerful symbols of inner states. This evolution underscores a continuous exploration by artists and thinkers to not only observe but also to deeply engage with and re-interpret the sky, revealing that what we perceive in the clouds is often a reflection of our own perspectives and emotions. Each new artistic and scientific tool, while sharpening our view, simultaneously adds layers of complexity to our understanding of the heavens above.

Through this rich historical tapestry, 'Chasing Clouds' reminds us of humanity's enduring fascination with the sky and our persistent quest to understand and express its ever-changing beauty. The exhibition encourages viewers to look beyond surface appearances and consider the profound ways in which art and science shape our perception of the natural world, inspiring a deeper appreciation for both the fleeting and the eternal.
