The much-anticipated Shenzhen Natural History Museum, a collaborative masterpiece by 3XN, B+H Architects, and Zhubo Design, has officially commenced operations in Shenzhen, China. This sprawling institution, encompassing over 100,000 square meters, now holds the distinction of being the largest natural history museum in Southern China and one of the most substantial recent additions to the world's natural history museum landscape. The project was conceived as a pivotal element of Shenzhen's expanding cultural infrastructure, thoughtfully combining exhibition areas, research facilities, educational spaces, and public gathering points into a unified civic hub. 3XN spearheaded the architectural conceptualization, B+H Architects provided lead consultancy, executive architectural services, and landscape design, while Zhubo Design offered crucial local technical expertise and regulatory navigation throughout the development phases.

Nestled by the picturesque Yanzi Lake, the museum's design unfolds as a continuous landscape, harmoniously merging the structure with its riparian environment. Eschewing the conventional approach of a distinct architectural edifice, the design thoughtfully extends the site's natural contours through an expansive, publicly accessible roofscape. This innovative feature incorporates gentle slopes, terraced areas, and open plazas, seamlessly connecting the museum grounds with the adjacent parklands.
