In the bustling city of Taizhou, China, a significant architectural and landscape endeavor, known as "Ripples Becoming Everyday Ground," has reshaped the southern bank of the Jiaojiang River. Spearheaded by the talented team at TJAD Original Design Studio, this 1691-square-meter park project was officially completed in 2026. The lead architects, including Zhang Ming, Zhang Zi, Ding Chun, Chen Kaiyang, and Ding Kuo, envisioned a landscape that would fluidly integrate with the natural riverine environment. The design team, which also featured contributions from Cai Han, Wang Xunan, Lin Yuyang, Lin Jiayi, Zhang Min, and Wu Zhenghao, focused on transforming a former industrial brownfield into a multi-functional public space. The project's location is particularly strategic, situated adjacent to the Jiaojiang Bridge of the Hangzhou–Taizhou High-Speed Railway, making it a prominent visual landmark for visitors entering the city.
The central concept revolves around reshaping the conventional, rigid embankment into a series of soft, undulating mounds. These earthworks are designed to evoke the serene image of wind-swept ripples spreading across the river's surface, gently washing ashore and merging with the urban edge. This innovative approach allowed for the creation of diverse micro-terrains that not only accommodate various human activities but also promote ecological restoration. The landscape design, crafted by Taizhou Urban and Rural Planning and Design Research Institute Co., Ltd., with a team including Gao Weihong, Tao Weiwei, Chen Bohan, Li Yaqian, Hu Jiajun, and Yu Jianliang, emphasizes the integration of blue-green-gray infrastructure systems. This holistic approach ensures that the area can effectively manage flood control while simultaneously fostering a thriving ecological habitat and providing lush public green spaces. The structural design team, Wang Jinhua and Wang Rui, ensured the stability and safety of these new topographical features, while the lighting design team, comprising Yang Xiu, Bian Chen, Wen Hailan, Wei Yanmeng, and Gu Xinghua, illuminated the park to enhance its appeal and usability during evening hours. The MEP design team, Jiao Xueyuan, Guo Changzhao, Cao Yang, Yu Chao, Zhu Yuanbin, and Liang Weipeng, contributed to the functional infrastructure. The construction was overseen by Taizhou Jiaojiang District Social Development Group Co., Ltd., with Lin Cong and Huang Huazhi acting as the owner's representatives. Through this collaborative effort, the project successfully reweaves the vitality of the site, establishing a harmonious, borderless waterfront where the urban environment coexists with nature.
